...and I thought A. huascar has a lyretail and A. atahualpa has a round tail. ;-)

(but you're right: A. huascar = Sunrise and A. atahualpa = Sunset)

Also, the colouration (although not the best way of IDing) is not of that of a Sunset... A.atahualpa is has more orange and blue, compared to A.huascar.

Very beautiful fish, is this species hard to come by? I would love to find some of these or Apistogramma mendezi but never see them anywhere, why is that?

A. huascar is a seasonal import from Peru that is fairly common, but you probably won't find it in pet shops. You'll have to buy it on line.

A. mendezi is a Brazilian fish. Brazilian apistos are harder to find in the US, but are available if you are willing to pay the price.
