A. sp. Abacaxis/Wilhelmi comes from the Lago Glemende near Waledo on the Rio Abacaxis. The following are the conditions when the species was originally collected by Linke & Wilhelm: slightly muddy and pale dark brown water; pH 3.9; hardness <1º dGH & dKH, conductivity 8 µS/cm @ 29.8ºC. This fish requires similar aquarium conditions for breeding: very soft water & a pH <5.
