I have an Apisto. cacatuoides pair that I'm unsure of the sex of one of them. I've never had a pair that had a female this big or colorful and she certainly seems to have male characteristics. Would love a second opinion from experts. Thanks,
Hi all,
With the usual disclaimer that I'm not very good at this, but I'm pretty sure they are both males, look at the extended rays on the dorsal fin.
cheers Darrel
I agree with Darrel, two males. One is the 'standard' variety, the other one a male of the 'orange' aquarium strain. Both will breed with the same females, giving pure or mixed fry depending on which aquarium strain the female comes from.
thanks guys, that's what I was thinking but hoping wasn't the case. Now I'm wondering if I can get a replacement from the guy I purchased them from :/.
