Hi all,

I have bought it as wildcaught Ap. Maulbruter a few weeks ago but I'm not sure they really are Maulbruter. They had 3cm in length and were not sexable when I got it.
Now they have 4-4.5cm in length and what I guess I have 1M+2F. Could you confirm my guess, please.

Is this really Ap. Maulbruter?

Thanks in advance
Richard

Mine did not have that blotch in the dorsal. The females also have a distinct black band on the breast behind the ventral fins that extends 1/2 - 2/3 up to the back.

yes, they are maulbruter though they do not seem to be wild caught...
moreover, they all seem to be female to me. :)

I had 4 juveniles and suspected 2 of them to be a pair. "he" had some color on the fins and "she" had a blotch on the belly similar to those at the nijjseni group females. unfortunately they both decided to leave the tank while I was not watching. now I have 2 smaller specimens and no idea what they are. they look very much like the photos 3 and 4 from iddt.
the female on the photos in DATZ and internet show the blotch on the belly of female - that's why I assumed I have 2 males left.

The superorbital stripe (the one between the eyes) is identical to that seen on Maulbrüter. The fish is a bit stocky (obese?), but the large head seems right, too.

They are 2 different fish & the gallery needs up-dating. A. sp. Juruá Emerald is the name originally used in Japan for A. sp. Juruá/A. sp. Cruzeiro.
