American Cichlid Association Convention

Hello, I am thinking of going to the ACA convention in Cincinatti this year. I will go if my work schedule permits it (its about a 50/50 chance right now). In addition to meeting other hobyists and attending some of the lectures I am interested in the fish auction. I have never been to a fish auction before (let alone one that is in a different city). Could someone please let me know if the materials needed to transport the fish back to New York are generally available at the convention (i.e., fish boxes). Thanks in advance.

The materials should be available. If you are going to check a box of fish on teh plane, I suggest that you purchase a cooler with a top handle. If you are going to get A LOT of fish, try to get some fish boxes. Get them early.. before the auction. They will become scarce once it starts.

Consider buying fish from the rooms the day before the auction. You might pay a bit more per fish.. maybe... maybe not. You will also get to choose your fish.

Does anyone have experience with airport security and bringing live fish on an airplane? I thought that everything has to go through the x-ray machines at the security check points prior to going to the gate. If I bring some fish back from the auction how do I avoid having them run though the x-ray machine? Thanks for your help.
