I bought a pair of Agassizii three months ago. They were sold as Rio Tefe Red Europe Bred. I have tried to take some good photos of the pair, but they are extremely camera shy, and it is hard to take a decent photograph of either of them. These are the best I have been able to take of the male.

Just after peoples thoughts as to which variant they may be.

Definitely not A. sp. Tefé (no wavy lines on flanks). It also doesn't look like any of the color morphs of A. agassizii from the Rio Tefé that I've ever seen, either. Yes, there are 2 different agassizii-complex species that live in the Rio Tefé, but not together. It looks like one of the many domestic red strains to me. Nice looking fish.

Thankyou Mike. We suspected as much. There was certainly some disparity in the quality and colours/patterns of the males and females in the group. The female I picked out is certainly the most orange coloured female agassizii I have ever seen. She really isn't yellow at all. I have a dozen 9 week old fry growing out at the moment, plus a new batch of 3 day old free swimming fry. I hope I have a decent mix of both sexes, but they're too small for me to tell at the moment,
