the owner I just bought half a dozen nanacara anomala from. He himself bagged the fish and rang me up at the till. I won’t throw him under the bus or mention his name he’s got more on the line than a silly online forum of eccentrics who assume before having real facts.

Don't forget, you came to the experts to ask about species size because you apparently don't know how big some of the most common Apistogramma in the world are. And 4 people have you answers. And you chose to get defensive because your fragile ego felt attacked.

Your shop owner is happy to continue taking your money. If they were actually knowledgeable, they'd stop selling sumps and expensive and fancy filters and driftwood and tell you the truth: you don't need that stuff to be successful. But I wouldn't expect a novice/try-hard to understand that.

I'll unsubscribe from this thread now and go tend to my fry tanks. Got a lot of fry to raise and sell!

my tank is not an open concept I have almost 1000 dollars worth of Mopani pieces in there planted with Anubias. “breaking sight lines”.
again with the assuming before asking how the tank is actually set up. assuming the hobbyist is an idiot. and that is appropriate and respectful? me having a legitimate debate is nothing compared to that.
I was beforewarned and told “the respected experts” on the Internet forums would treat me this way‍

Here’s a thought, instead of picking arguments and coming off as arrogant, maybe send a picture of the aquarium so that people reading this at least have something to reference to.

What I will never get: On the one hand it is absolutely correct to recreate conditions as in the wild. Decorations, water conditions, temperature, lighting, food. But often people ignore space requirements, tankmates and social structure can not be recreated well in captivity as tank sizes are limited and e.g. predators or food competition become serious problems.
