Acceptable tankmates

I have seen quite a few times that pencilfish are good tankmates in an apisto tank. I have not been able to find any at the lfs. I have a 65 gallon apisto tank containing a pait of cacs, pair of borelli, pair of angels and one german ram. What would be some other tankmates that would be with ok with fry.
The ph is 6.4. the water is softened with peat and driftwood. I have a very good lfs but for some reaon no pencilfish.

Have you tried Hatchetfish? Marble and silver hatchet fishes are great fish for apistos for many reasons, they stay at the top of the water column and are of no threat to them or the parents while they are with fry. A large school of them do excellent because they do school, but they do jump, so keep the top on at all times. They are pretty available in many lfs also. best of luck! john

With angelfish in your tank you will not need to worry about fry. They will take care of them quite well - as well as any smaller slender fish you add to the tank.

Those are some nice pencil fish and the zebra oto cat's are pretty wild looking!

well,

I just got back from the swap meet a few hours ago and was disappointed. the Pencils were sold to one of the previous vendors. I did find out where I could get some more for a decent price, so hopefully soon enough I could get my hand on these and try breeding them!! cheers john
