I would really like to know whether this is actually a true Viejita or something else. @Frank Hättich ?
I see nothing that speaks against viejita - it might just be a particularly colorful specimen.
However, I have seen similar fish showing more red coloration on the head than typical viejita that were said to be from Cumaribo (Vichada). So, I would better call these A. cf. viejita and never keep them together with A. viejita.

I suppose genetic testing would be required to answer the question though i would not be shocked if it is not the same species but closely related. I couldn't find them listed on Tom's page under apisto news or similar - does anyone know how long ago they were discovered.

I am also curious how closely related these group of similar fishes are that genetic research has actually been performed (macs vs viejita vs ...). Are there non-colour identifier that distinguish these fishes ?

Photographs can distort colours, so other methods are required to help with identifying I imagine.

Re-designing and starting a new fish room all over again. This time we'll have many more Apistsogramma species. We are expanding.

Hi,

just in case you happen to live in Germany (or Netherlands): I have a wildcaught female A. psammophila, you could have it for free. I have no use for it anymore.
