Can anyone tell me what the current opinion is regarding A. Trifasciata "Maciliensis" ?
After reading the Mergus Cichlid Atlas volume 1, it appears that Dr Uwe Romer is quite certain that this fish is a separate species and not Trifasciata "Maciliensis", but Apistogramma Maciliensis in its own right.

You have to realize that Römer wrote this in 1997. Things have changed, at least in the hobby literature. The fish that Uwe then believed was "A. maciliensis" is now A. erythrura (aka A. sp. Mamoré). A. trifasciata maciliensis is only a population of the typical A. trifasciata. Do a search here for "maciliensis" for more details.
