Hi DaRe, its the location where they are found.. A.diplotaenia are a very rarely seen dwarf cichlid and most are wild caught, they can be found in different sections of various rivers and wherever possible its nice to label the fish with the collecting locality.

Only those fish that are caught by hobbiests or are imported by specialist dealers are accurately described, some unscrupulous dealers make up names to try to make the fish sound more attractive, be careful who you buy Apistos from!! many have not got a clue about the genus.

Thanks, rare but truly beautiful. I know my local shop (among the largest ones in Sweden) now has a couple sp. Oregon which looks really nice. And I happen to have a 112 liter tank not doing anything really ;)

Sorry for OT.

The 'Barcelos' designation is more likely an indication of the collecting station from which the fish were shipped to Manaus and then exported. We see many fish listed with 'Barcelos'. A. sp. Oregon is a wonderful fish. They can be a bit 'choosy' about mates. It is usually best to buy several young adults and let them chose their own mates.

Re-designing and starting a new fish room all over again. This time we'll have many more Apistsogramma species. We are expanding.

Hi,

just in case you happen to live in Germany (or Netherlands): I have a wildcaught female A. psammophila, you could have it for free. I have no use for it anymore.
