Hi all,
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't there a "Wild Form" of Aggie fire reds
There are forms with red backs, but I assume that the "Fire Reds" are a leucistic/xanthistic mutation which had been fixed by breeding. They look extremely strange looking in the flesh, and you can't imagine them lasting in the wild.

cheers Darrel

There is no "Wild Form" of Fire-red A. agassizii. It is a domestic form developed from several different populations of wild and domestic populations/forms/species of the A. agassizii superspecies. One of them was probably A. cf. agassizii Santarem Rotrücken/Red-back. It is a form that has little body color, other than a red band below the dorsal fin. This population was discovered about a year before the fire red was developed. It was probably crossed with one of the 'super-red' domestic strains to develop the first Fire-red Agassizii strains. These have been improved over the years.
