30 gallon long

as the title says i have a empty 30 gallon long. i was planning on planting it and getting some apistos. i have a few questions, could i divide it in half and have a pair in each side or could i have 2 pairs of different species in the 30 undivided, or a trio of one species? thanks.

morning and welcome to the forum. You will get different replies, however I would suggest that you keep a trio of one type in the 30long. Whatever your decision is at the end, even if you wish to keep 2pairs on different apistos, I would not divide the tank at all. Just watch them interact. If you wish to breed and you do decide on 2pairs of different Apistos, not to get the same family for cross breading. Have fun and enjoy

so i would have to get a pair of rams or something like that and a pair of apistos? or just two species of apisto that dont look the same?

Just get 2 pairs that are from different group - one deep bodied form and one slender form: A. borellii & A. cacatuoides for example.

i was also wondering if most species can be kept in pairs in tengallon tanks that are planted? if not all which ones? thanks

If you are an experienced apisto breeder, yes you can breed most species in a 10. There are some like A. atahualpa that I wouldn't try. Most of the nijsseni-group species are OK, too, but only after they form a pair bond.
