Umm... I'm not sure that bird genetics and fish genetics are as close as you think. Does anyone know if fish have "splits" for type or colour? Other than a couple of species of Apistos, most are bred to look exactly like their parents. We tend to get rid of anything that doesn't look right...
They are a cool little fish. I rather like blue-eyes.
Hope you find a good source for your Apistos. I know Wet Thumb occasionally has some species available. Usually stuff like agasizzi, borellii, etc.
Woohoo! It's back. :)
I'd like to thank Neil for all of his hard work in creating apistogramma.com. We wouldn't be here without it.
To Ted... congrats on the new purchase and I hope things go well with it. If you need any help from me on anything..... just ask. The worst you'll get is no...
I know someone who does that every week! They have a homemade type filter with 2 sponges. Each week one side gets pulled, and thrown into the washer, with the other side being done the week after.
Actually, all images posted online are covered by copyright laws whether or not they have the copyright image on the pic or not. Just letting you know.
Guess I got lucky when I spawned my kribs ages ago. They spawned in an aquarium brick (lovely pink colour LOL) in a 5 gallon tank with only themselves in it and they never bothered the fry. I can't recall when I moved the fry out though. Knowing what I know now, I'd say I got extremely lucky...
Bob,
I would not consider these fish to be dwarfs. You're talking about Malawian cichlids. The cobalts may be too aggressive for the peacocks when they grow up. You may want to go with a smaller Pseudotropheus type (e.g. saulosi) to go in with the peacocks. Those should be fine in a well...
I didn't really have too much room. Am in the process of clearing other stuff out to give them the proper space they need. They aren't kept badly. It's just if they do breed anytime soon, I can't save any fry.
He probably is at least 6. I searched the apisto list archives for the thread I started asking about the water parameters needed to spawn norberti. I remember stating I had hard water and was told they wouldn't hatch. They did, but not alot. I can't find that particular thread, however, I did...
Nope, I've had dwarfs around for years. In fact, my last norberti I have is a male F1 that's getting close to 6 years old now. I've always loved the little fish. It's just lately when I want to get more into them, the local area is a bit devoid of any good apistos (except cacatuoides which I've...
The balloon rams appear to have quite a bit of curvature to their spine compared to regular rams. To those of us who are used to the normal ones, they appear stunted and mis-shapen. I know some people really like them. I'm not one of those people. If you like them, then that's ok for you. I...
