In rams, the female's sexual organ is bigger than the males' by quite a bit.

From what i see, the " male's " sexual organ is bigger than the "females".....
I'm just shocked to see the "male" lay eggs in front of my eyes...

so far, none of the eggs from all 3 batches have hatched before...

I'm quite sure its the "male" who laid the eggs last night, as I saw that "his" sexual organ was bigger and I saw eggs coming out from it while the "female" had a little lump only....I'll see if if I can get some pictures..they're hidden behind a bush of plants

Well, you must have the sexes mixed up. The fish don't though! LOL

Either way, you've got yourself a breeding pair. Good luck on the fry.

The parents always lay great number of eggs but have no luck in hatching them as yet....fungus always appear on the eggs though, actually I just have them in my planted tank to add some life...no hard ups in breeding them

What are the gh/kh readings for your tank? If the water is too hard, the eggs will not get fertilized properly, won't develop properly and hence fungus.

Kh is 0 while ph is 6.3...

Does females have extended high dorsal fins like the males? one of them have a rather high and extended dorsal compared to the other...

Female can have tall spikes in their dorsal fins. Males usually have a taller spike, but many female rams these days have just as tall a spike as the males'.

Do you have a gh test kit? I'm still wondering if your water is too hard... but that is seeming unlikely with a kh of 0.

Are you certain that the eggs fungus, or do they just get eaten.

It could be that one of them is sterile. This is very very common amoung lfs rams as most come from Asian fish farms where hormones are routinely given to increase fish growth rates and to get them colored up faster for markets here in the US.

Hi,

just in case you happen to live in Germany (or Netherlands): I have a wildcaught female A. psammophila, you could have it for free. I have no use for it anymore.
