Mine too came from Or. [apisto Dave] but he quickly sent me 6 more and received those alive and well with a heat pack. Stay on top of the water changes and hopefully you'll be fine. The fish mat have died from just stress, some fish of the same kind are stronger and just ship better.
Welcome Bigtuna, I have received 6 apistos once, and all were dead. Where were thy shipped from-to, was a heat pack used? In my case no heat pack=dead fish.
A 20 is fine for a grow out tank, do 2-3 water changes a week and they should do fine. I have a batch in a 10 gl. for now and a older group in a 29 tall.
She's pretty much doing everything you see going on, the fry are starting to get older and starting to scatter from the nest, and your going to need a grow out tank soon, do you have another tank for them and what are you feeding them?

It looks young still and not sure but it looks like it getting torn up fins, I would remove it to another tank and give it time to heal. Good luck
I think your tank is still to open, what works for me is I take a log and run it from front to back mid tank than plant tall plants from front to back thick line of plants. If you want a more open tank then it probably wont work out to well when you add females to it, if you want to have males...
As far as the gravel they will and can stuck between them and die, I dont use gravel any more just sand, sometimes they get better at parenting sometimes not. Do you know what your water paramotors are? If I want the fry I normally take out the male and leave the female with fry and no other...
