Interesting Art Exhibition

And now for something completely different.

Last weekend me and my partner visited the Federal Art Museum of Germany (Bundeskunsthalle) in our former "Capital Village", Bonn. They usually host several different exhibitions at the same time and currently there is an extensive exhibition on the Amazon Forest, showing traditional artifacts and modern art from the tribes there, Of course there was a lot of Fish related art. I want to share some of the stuff with you.

One of the (to me) most interesting artists was this one, who incorporates shapes and colours that vaguely remind you of animals from the region, of course including fish.


You all know our fish have reflecting scales that make some of the colours and markings only visible in certain angles. This artist uses the same effect, the gold markings on the fish and animals in the pictures were mostly only visible in certain angles, too. The Camera got them all though.

This artist painted a Igapo flooded forest.

And yes, in many of the artwork you were able to spot fish and most often it was easily possible to tell apart characins, cichlids and catfish.

They had a vast collection of traditional Art, collected in the 19th century. Here is only one of the many examples I found interesting: A figurine of an Amazon River Dolphin or Boto (Inia geoffrensis).

Some artworks crossed the line between modern and traditional, like these fotos of people in traditional bodypaint but painted with UV-reactive colours, glowing under black light.

And finally an example of all the mixed creatures in art, which were shown in great numbers, so I stopped botheriing taking fotographs at one point.
