    seperate tank for breeding?

I have a 20L which I want to use for breeding apisto Borelli yellow, I have just removed a 5" plec as it was destroying my plants but still have one Siamese algae eater and one cory catfish in there which I want to keep as they are cute and have become best buddies following each other around...

    Apisto for 20g long

OK thanks....I don't have any interest in breeding them so I'll go for two males and 3 females to make 6 total....two different species for more color.... Thanks.

    Hole in the head.....

He was eating when I discovered his illness, he has never stopped, I'll treat him for 7-10 days and see how he is

    Hole in the head.....

I have an apistogramma with hole in the head disease for which he is being treated, he seems to be doing ok now and is eating very well, my question is since I suspect he will always have a scar on his head, how will I know when to stop treatment?.....how will I know when he is actually cured...

    how many please?

How many apistogramma can I keep in a 20g long without aggression issues? I want to keep 2 different species, maybe 1 male and 2 female of each. Neil.

Yes, I have some pieces of flower pot from an attempt a few weeks back so I will practice a couple times first lol Neil.

    nutrients, plants and algae

I am adding nutrients to my tank for the plants but in doing so I get algae growth, I am told to do water changes to keep nutrients and in turn algae down but then my plants aren't getting nutrients? Neil.

    What size hole?

I was rummaging through my tool box and came across a 5/8 masonary bit which got me thinking maybe I could use it to bore a hole in a flower pot that an apistogramma may use as a cave to spawn in?.....how large a hole does she need to get through and do her business? Neil.

    cycling a sponge filter

I have set the sponge up with the small air pump in the corner of my 55g functioning as a filter, I am currently building a stand for the new 20g so the sponge can 'cycle' while I am putting that together which will probably be about 3 weeks due to time constraints. Thanks for the tip Gerald. Neil

    cycling a sponge filter

Thanks Darrel As its going to be a breeder tank I am going bare bottom, although I will put as much java moss in as I can grow lol. Thanks for the info, I didn't know it could get so involved, a very interesting hobby. Neil.
