I am new to the dwarf cichlids and have recently set up two pairs of Apisto. ramerizi. Each pair are in their own 10 gallon tank. Both pairs have spawned and both pairs have eaten the eggs after a day or so. These are young fish and this is their first spawning. Will they eventually spawn and care for their eggs or would it be advisable to remove the eggs for hatching?

Welcome to the forum! Your Mikrogeophagus ramirezi (hasn't been a part of the genus Apistogramma for 30+ years:)) are behaving like most Rams. Some pairs eventually get it 'right' and raise their own fry but more often don't. If you really want to breed this species you might do what most Ram breeders do - pull the eggs and hatch/raise them similar to angelfish. If it were me I'd give them 4 or 5 chances to get it 'right' first.

Like I said I am new to the dwarf cichlids and have much to learn. I will give the rams a few more tries before I attempt to hatch the eggs with out the parent fish. Not too sure how long it will be before they spawn again. I am feeding them frozen blood worms and live white worms along with an occasional bit of New Life Spectrum small pellet food.
