Has anyone tried to make their tank water more acidic? So that you might be able to increase the sex ratio of males to females in P. taeniatus "Moliwe" ? I have heard that there are more females to males in breeders tanks. What would you use to lower my 7 ph water to less acidic water? Some of the Things I see being used like leaves can get messy. I read something that Brits use a cone from some tree. Does anyone know what that is? I did not want to spend a lot of money on Chemicals mixed from a company.

Alder cones -- although, unless you have a lot of them, you aren't going to make a huge dent in the pH or hardness of the water. Personally, I'd recommend a section of panty hose tied off on two ends filled with peat moss placed directly into the tank. One handful of peat moss per 20 gallons seams to work okay for me.

peat moss is easy to find. Now panty hose on the other hand will interesting. Don't know many women who wear them.:)
Thanks for the idea

Err ... do you mean you're afraid to go into a store and buy a pair?? Don't worry just do it. No one will care. If you get asked, just tell them. Either way all they can think is that you're kind of weird.:D It reminds me of a sign seen on a bar room wall in Ketchican, Alaska: "As long as your hands are clean and your money's green, you're welcome here." That's true for any large retailer.:)

and if you dont have a female friend to cover for you, most online fish retailers have tight weave mesh bags meant for holding filter media like carbon.
