Is it possible that these two could breed with a female of the opposite male?
(Not that I am considering just curious).

Yes it is more than possible; esp if they are in different aquariums; though even if they are in the same aquarium it is possible.

You bring up a good point; so i guess i should clarify - there is no attachment between male and female cockatoo and the female will readily breed with any suitable male though if there is multiple male she will pick the one she finds appropriate and if a single male is not suitable she will reject him (don't ask me how females think and what they find suitable or appropriate); however all cockatoo regardless of colourstrain per @Apistoguy52 comment are possible partners; to make matter worse there are even some fishes that are not cockatoo that she can breed with though generally speaking the frys might be sterile or non-viable; and such hybrid are generally frown upon.

There are species of fishes where a strong attachment between male and female does exist and in some less common species the female will refuse to breed with another male even if her mate has passed on.

Just to follow up.
I have around 12 free swimming babies.
Dad was removed as a precaution and to give mum a break. She's a natural. He's pissed off in another tank
