No this is something different from the columbianus/ecuadoriensis group. Look back at Ekona's photos in the first post; it's more like a Loreto tetra or H. peruvianus.

OK, stand corrected. That's the problem with common names. Well, AFAIK Hyphessobrycon/Hemmigrammus is still a dumping ground for many similar characids, sort of like what Cichlasoma/Aequidens was before Dr. Kullander started working on them.

I've just purchased some columbianus. Nice fish!
H. colombianus are not the fish identified in this thread. They are very different, but still very colorful and have interesting personalities when fully grown. I had a school that occupied the top layer of a 55 and they were a joy to keep.

It will be more useful to speak Spanish when you, in the future, travel to South America to collect exciting fish.;)
Well, Ian Fuller is talking at PDAS next monthly meeting I think.

My tenses are not great and I have a lot of vocabulary missing. I can often work things out when it is written though.

Este verano he visto una nueva especie de Apistogramma a un station de exportación a Iquitos. Fue muy muy bonita!

I'm impressed with myself; I didn't need to use google translate for any of that. So, what new species were these in Leticia?

Well, that's the issue...
The owner, biologist and years working there didn't know the specimens. He'd kept 2.3 to start breeding them. Their habitat was under severe pressure.
I'm still in touch with him, so I'll ask for an update.

well these tetras are certainly not from the area around Iquitos! They are usually shipped from the border of Colombia...and the fishermen are veeery secretive when it comes to ask them about where they get them ;)
