I use to see these everywhere. Any idea what happened? I wanted to try one of the bigger Apistogramma species.

Guyana is not a major fish exporter anymore and most specimens commercially available were domestic bred fish. Now more 'popular' apistos (read commercially more profitable) are being bred.

Thanks Mike.

Do you know why Guyana's exporting situation changed?

Guyana has a democratic, nationalistic and rather socialistic government. As such it is rather protective of its national resources, especially toward more capitalistic interests. When it was a British colony (British Guyana) and the decade after independence (in 1966) it was more open to external trade in these resources. In many ways it is similar to Ecuador except with a more British bent (language, governance and judiciary).
