Hi guys,

I need some expert inputs please!

I just gotten these pair from my local pet shop as “gold fire”

Are these apistograma agassiszi?
Also would anyone be able to tell if they are female and male?

In the bag, they were laballed as male and female.

Best Regards,

Paul

Yep, domestic A. agassizii, first picture is definitely a male. Second... the dorsal fin is not really visible, so... leaning towards male, but no guarantees.

Yeah... two males. That's he downside of domestic colour breeds over strains that are closer to the wild forms and wild fish. Sexing is a mess.

Thank you very much macZ.

I guess I have to separate them? They are in a community tank with other fishes now

Yeah, rehome them both. You already have a pair of A. cacatuoides and almost no structure and hiding spots where the fish can evade each other.

I would also remove the algae eaters, they will outgrow the tank in a few months.

Edit: Actually I would probably re-do the whole stocking, this is quite a "fish-soup" you have there.
