The fish is a juvenile, not a baby, it has some tell-tale colouration in the fins (colours which you will only find in these domestic strains) and also the diagnostic stripes and markings on the body, as well as head and fin shape are all already clearly visible.

Too small to sex, though. From experience I'd expect a male. The majority of these fish in the trade is male.

I'm leaning towards male due to the dorsal fin; the pictures are not very good but it seems to be what i've seen on my male.

Juvenile got some color. It's clearly cacatuoides. Wondering if it's male or female? I am thinking male.

Also, I ordered 1 Opal Borreli Male but then send me this guy instead. I feel bad sending him back, so I wouldn't. Do you think if then send me the Opal will they fight if they are both male?

Tank is 90 Gallons. I am changing out silk plants for real plants so it's moderately real plants and moderate fake right now. But will be completely real heavily planted in a few months.

Tank mates are some Boe Rainbow, Cardinal Tetras, Panda Corydoras and Oto Cats. Plenty of room stocking wise. Just curiously if the male cacatuiodes will fight with the male opal if the company sends me correct fish.

Thanks.

Oh and forgo on the A. borellii. It will be outcompeted in your tank. Aggression is also possible but not the main problem.

Also if you keep two male cockatoo they might fight; i remember adding a runt of a cockatoo i had in one aquairum with another male i had and the little runt (who was the new comer) killed the established cockatoo in 6 hours (there was no female and the aquairum size was a 29 and he backed it into a corner and then well you get the picture).

You mean out competed for food? Yeah. I noticed this Juvenile Cockatoo beats the Cardinal tetras and Boe Rainbows for food. Not by speed but by pure wit lol.

Yep, because A. borellii are not very outgoing in my experience.

No idea, since I detest domestic A. cacatuoides, to me it's just a degenerate piece of inbred fish.

I agreed with that they send me the wrong fish completely. But I am not going to send him back that's mean.

I'm not saying you should send that fish back. Just don't get a second and keep the one accidently delivered. The animal still has a right to live and be treated and housed well.

I'm just of the opinion to not breed the domestic strains anymore because they do worse and worse every year. Whether that means the breeds go extinct or not is irrelevant to me.

So the single specimen should be treated with respect, I just don't like what so-called breeders did to these fish.

Yeah I had no intention of sending him back I'll love him and care for him for as long as he lives.

What's the different between a wild cacatuiodes and domestic cacatuiodes?

A lot of inbreeding generations and otherwise take a look here:

Wild and wild type: No deformed fins/body, less slack-jaws and different colours, not just the black/orange red or uniformely orange/yellow, a healthy immune system and usually you can expect them to last a year longer.
