I got a small group of these recently and now have a pair with free swimming fry. The group is 4m and 2f. I would like to separate the others from the pair but its not going to be easy catching them.

Does anyone have any papers on the breeding and rearing of this species that they can share.

Most of the books I have are sparse with info on these fish.

Hi Mike.
I have some books ie Datz, cichlid Atlas 1 and 2. Plus 2 others. Although they all have some info I was looking for something written by a breeder. Something more detailed

I never bred them with that sex ratio. Maybe you can document your unique experience on breeding them. I always have multiple females spawning with a single male. The trick is to keep the females from killing each other. The spawns all ended up with very skewed sex ratio towards female. I must have well over 20 to 30 spawns throughout the years I was breeding them. I did notice some commercial breeders were getting mostly males but I don't know their water parameters.

Hi wetthumbs.
I wish I could document some activity. Unfortunately having followed instructions from books i had planted the tank heavily so dont see much at all. Its pretty shaded as well. About the only thing I see is the female tail waving with the fry around her.

Well, I know that Koslowski (DATZ) has bred T. candidi, as has Römer (CA I & II), Staeck (Linke & Staeck), Mayland (Mayland & Bork) and Koji Yamazaki (Matsuzaka et al. 1996). If you really want behavioral descriptions, then Koslowski (1986 & 2002) and Römer both are pretty good. What information are you looking for that's missing in your books?

I was hoping to read about behavioural signals. ie tail waving, head stands, static poses. I see one fish doing these things but I dont see the recipient of the display, so dont understand the signs.

With additional fish in the same tank im still hoping not to loose any fish. Once the fry are bigger I will try to catch the others
