it's maltessers, you should be able to find them in aus at most supermarkets!!
i think it is one of the ada products that helps keep the water around the desired levels for amazonian fish

Beautiful fish there blue.
What kind of substrate is used in those photos?

Except for Mendezi, the substrates are ADA's branded aquasoil.
For Mendezi's, it is a kind of Hong Kong made aquasoil :)

hahaaa... by the way, folks in Hong Kong also called this kind of substrate (the one for Mendezi) "maltessers", what a coincidence :)

Blue,

Do you find aquasoil changes the water chemistry. I started to use it on my one of my low tech planted tank and I was please with the result. Have you used power sand?

Thanks

David

Hi David, i basically tried all the substrates that are appropriate to Apistos, including all kinds of river sands and rocks. For breeding tanks, i will now always use Aquasoil (including ADA and other brands) as it keeps the water soft and acidic. Moreover, the effect is very stable which means that the water chemistry won't fluctuate a lot...
