Small dithers?

Hi, I'm currently stocking my 20 gallon long, heavily planted tank with Sundadanio axelrodi as future dither fish while I wait for a pair of Apistogramma agassizi 'Fire Orange' or Apistogramma bitaeniata 'Momon' to become available. The dithers occupy the mid-upper area of the tank, stick pretty close together, and are just about an inch in length.

Most of what I've read on Apistogramma agassizi, including a post here by a forum member that stocks Boraras brigittae as dithers, indicates that these should be fine. I haven't found too much information indicating one way or another on Apistogramma bitaeniata, except that housing only a pair will result in aggressive behavior. Can anyone offer their experience on either fish with small dithers?

Thanks in advance for your replies!

Morning,

My experience with all apistos that I have kept, is to keep a ration of 1M to 2-3F and always to have small dithers ( mountain clouds etc ). The reasons behind this is two fold. 1. With more that 1 female, the male will not always harrass the single female , thus giving all a fair go. 2. The dithers also distract the apisto male and also make the apistos feel at easy when they swim around as this indicates no predators. I also would like to add, that for a 20long, one must have tons of hidding spaces, oak leaves and plenty of cover for all fis h concerned. This should then eleviate any agression of most species. cheers jk
