Do rams have mating rituals? My male and female gold rams seem to be "kissing" and flashing thier fins for each other...is this a pre-breeding ritual?or are they quarreling?

Dear Crimsonrain,
Well, it could be either. Usually "jaw locking" and "tail beating" are acts of aggession, but displaying is usually associated with courtship.
What size is your tank, and how may Microgeophagus ramirezi do you have in it? Sometimes if a tank is overcrowded, social issues can pop up. The fish compete for territory and social hierarchy.
