My male a. sp winkelfleck has had popeye for a while (6? months) but it has gotten noticeably worse and i'm trying to decide if should treat it or just let leave it be.
The aquarium is a 29 parameters are 0 measurable all (nitrate, nitrite, ...) the fish was sold as wc; i received it around Dec 1 2023 and it was already a young adult so total age is approx 20+ months. I naturally googled typical treatments. The last fish i had with pop eye and a bit of bloat (m. agassizii) i moved from a 29 into a 200 (it was a solo fish in the 200 at the time as it was a new setup) and it quickly cured itself without meds or intervention. I will be upgrading the 29 to a 100 in approx 2 to 4 weeks at which time i will be removing the young c. sterbai which had been put in there as they were too small at the time for their target aquarium added approx jun 1 2024. My long term plan was to have a colony of winkefleck or d37 in the upgraded aquarium. Comparing pictures of the winkefleck from 8 months ago to now he definitely shows signs of aging in the body shape and scales. I presumed he could live 4ish years in good condition but he might be aging faster than that timeline would permit. The assumption of 4 years is based off of how long my mistreated female nijjensi lived and the age of my male dosmetic a. agassizii (who is already 3 1/2). I keep the temp around 75 during the winter and 78 during the summer.
It would be easy enough for me to catch the male winkfleck if treatment in a 10 is required - the hard part would be clearing out a 10 to treat him but i think it could be done in a couple of weeks.
