Pelvicachromis Taeniatus Moliwe Breeding

I have a breeding pair of Pelvicachromis Taeniatus Moliwe

They spawn for the second time and ate the fry`s, second time , after the first or second day there where free swimming.
Any tips I can do to prevent this from happening again

Put some non-aggressive target fish (I like rainbowfish) in the tank, assuming that the tank is large enough for this.

There in a 20 gallon tanks

I do have 3 pencil fish in with them


Guess I need more fishes with them

New pairs tend to take a few tries before a successful spawn would take place. My WC pair took at least 2 (or was it 3) tries before they were successful. Make sure you have multiple caves for them as females will move the newly hatched frys to a new cave as soon as they hatched. The female would be very protective of the frys even against an over eager male.

I typically have another pair of P. taeniatus in an adjacent tank. With the use of a partition, I can help it to cement their pair bonding as well as channel their aggression. Obviously each tank also has some active dither fish ranging from 3 to 6 of them that occupy the top portion of the tank.
