Orange Flash Cacatuoides

At the pet store I saw the Orange Flash Cacatuoides, I would like to know if I can keep a pair in my tank. It’s a 40g tank, pH 7.6 and High Range pH 8.0. I have 1 Flash Pleco, 3 cory, 3 red nose, and 2 mini loach. Are Cacatuoides friendly? What would I see, behavior?

I think they would do OK for you. Your water is pretty alkaline for most Apistos but cacatoides are found in fairlyneutral water in the wild and the Orange Flash strain has been acclimated to aquariums for many years. The only problem might be with the fertility of any eggs that are laid.

In terms of behaviour, they would make a great community fish for you. Cacatoides are among the best Apistos for beginners and I suspect that they will give you amny hours of pleasure.

Thanks for writing . Is it possible to have a fin-nipping situation? My Pleco will grow long fins, little worry.

I wouldn't worry too much about your ph. I have kept and spawned tank strains of Cacatuoides in a wide range of ph levels and have gotten quite large and healthy spawns up to 8.2. There are quite a few breeders that do absolutely nothing to soften their tap water when breeding aquarium strains of Apistos and do so successfully.

I would not be concerned at all about the cacatoides nipping the fins of other fish.
