Hi. I am new to this forum. I currently have 2 kribs in my 29 gallon community tank, and am interested in setting up a tank with some apisto's in it. I really like the A. agassizii "Double Red" and A. cacatuoides "triple Red." Would these be ok together? (I'm not really concerned with breeding). Also, would a 20 gallon high or a 20 gallon long be better? I want to plant the aquarium, should I use that system (I forget what it's called) where you add the sugar and yeast to the back, or do I not need it for an aquarium that small? Thanks for any information you have.

no, not IMO, the Kribs will spawn whether you want them to or not, and then things will get rough.

20L will be much better for dwarf cichlids, they will use the floor space. Easier to light for a planted tank too, co2 will help wonders. What are you going to use for lights?

a trio of apistos would do better with more floor space. 2 males would not do well in that tank, ime. a cacatuoides would be my first choice for a beginner apisto.

thanks for the info. I meant that I wanted to start a tank exclusively for the Apisto's, and leave the kribs in my community tank (they seem to be doing very well there). Right now, my 29 gallon is planted, and I use some full spectrum lights specially for planted tanks. I will probably use the same type of lights for the other tank as well.
