Hi all,

I recently purchased two pairs of apistos from a LFS in maryland. All the apistos they had were mislabeled so I'm not putting any faith into what was on the tanks. The first male was labeled as "albertini", but I'm almost certain from the Datz book that it's not A. cf. eunotus "Schwanzstreifen", a synonym according to Mike's list. I could not make out the label for the second pair. Below are photos of both males.

Labeled as "albertini"

Thanks for any help!! Andy

Both could well be Pebas, but without black markings you can't be sure..

Mark

I agree with Mark on both counts. Do you have photos of females?? A. sp. Albertini originally belonged to a form of A. cf. eunotus Tail-stripes/Schwanzstreifen, but your fish is different.

Thanks for all your help so far. I was leaning towards A. sp. Pebas for the first pair, but could not be sure as to what the second pair was. Here are the females, sorry for the poor quality it's the best I could do with my camera and photo taking abilities.

Once again, thanks for all your help. I've been lurking on apistogramma.com for awhile, these are my first posts. Great site!

Hi,

I would tend more to A. sp. Putumayo than A. sp. Pebas.

The first picture makes me surely think of Putumayo, but the second picture makes me less sure. ;-)
Could be a matter of photography...

Mike, what do you think?

regards,
Rolo

I think you're right, Rolo. The "Albertini" female does not appear to have a caudal patch. More photos (100 +) will help make the identification more certain.
