For the 4th time they have spawned. The first 3 times were unsuccessful and my male moved on to another female.. that stud muffin. Well.. on the 4th spawn.. I originally thought they would just eat the eggs again. However, this time I noticed on one side of the clay dish thingy I have in the tank.. one side had darker looking eggs and the other side had lighter looking ones. I also saw the female and male eating the eggs.. I was thinking.. great.. here we go again. But then I saw them SPIT them out into the pile of darker eggs.. I looked closer.. and guess what?? I GOT WIGGLERS!!!!

What can I feed them? I need to buy it tomorrow! I need some help here people! I have no clue what I should do with these guys. Should I pick up a 5g and a sponge filter and move them into the 5g??? NEED HELP! LOL

Should I pick up a tank divider so that I can isolate the tetras, corys and apistos and the other female ram to the other side of the tank and let the parents do their thing? so far I have a cascade 700 running on the side where the parents are, I turned that off, and the aquaclear 70 on the right of the tank is running. I dont want to suck up all the fry if they start swimming.

here are pics I just took tonight, some from last night

I'm no expert here, but I have done a lot of reading. The other fish would likely eat the fry, so first I would divide (and for round 5 I wouldn't have them together).

Secondly I suggest BBS/get a culture of microworms going (you can read how on the net). You can try the Hikari first bites for the fry, but I understand most fry like to respond to live bait (remember they are a fish).

Lastly, if you move them, make sure you move them in water from the same tank.

I am interested in the type and quality of water you used: RO/rain/other?

Thanks, and if you do a search on this site, you will find lots of good answers.

Good luck,

Randy

Hi Interlude,
The best time to deal with potential fry is before you have them. They will wiggle for around 3 days and start to swim. By this time their yolk sacs will be used up and they will need live food immediately.

If you want to rear fry, you'll need to either pull the eggs or move the wigglers into another tank. For this other tank, you need a well seeded sponge filter. You can buy a small one, pull off the sponge and put it in your filter box for a couple of weeks, or you can clean out an already established one in a bucket of warm declor. water and run the new filter in the bucket for a couple of hours to suck up all that good stuff.

Microworms are an important first food for ram fry. After 2-3 days on these they will be ready to start eating new hatched baby brine shrimp. Watch for all the tummies to be pink before stopping the microworms. If you have a local aquarium club, you might contact them to see if someone has a culture they can give you.

A long time ago in a galaxy far away I wrote up how I raise ram fry. I'll post a link, sorry about the ads, this isn't my 'real' site anymore.
