Yes. I have bred many apistos in small tanks (40x45x25 cm). Depth is not as important as bottom area.

Hey sorry for hijecking the tread...I will like to find out if a Tank of 30cm x 45cm x 30cm will be good to House and breed Apisto...(I'm refering to Species like A.Diplo,A.Bitae Tefe,A.Mendezi, A.Eliza and T.Candidi..)Asuming the Tank will be furnished with 1 or 2 blocks of Java ferns tied onto...

And for which diemension of Tanks will be suitable to house all the fires and how many per Tank??

Thanks & Regards
Dimas

I'm Hooked into Apisto........

Unless you are an experienced fish keeper and keep an eye on your fish, your tanks are too small for many apistos. The tanks are OK for pairs of small species like A. borellii, A. diplotaenia, A. sp. Balzfleck/Courting-spot, A. staecki, A. pertensis-complex & smaller regani-group species. Pair-bonded species like A. panduro & A. nijsseni will work in this size tank - if the pair is already bonded together. These tanks are usually too small for harem breeders. With experience, you should be able to breed these species, too, but expect losses of fish to attacks by their 'partner' if you don't pay close attention.

Grow-out tanks for fry should be as large as possible. Pollutants put out by the fry slow their growth. Other options are smaller tanks & changing water 2 - 3 time per day (not very practical).
