I would appreciate some help with sexing a young Apistogramma hongsloi (Rotstrich Apistogramma).
The fish is approximately 4 cm (1.6 inches) long and was sold to me as a male, but I am becoming increasingly unsure.
Here are the characteristics I have observed:
Behavior:
What confuses me most is the black coloration on the pelvic fins and dorsal fin, which is often described as a female trait. On the other hand, the red spot at the tail base and the body shape seem more male-like.
Based on these observations and the attached photos, would you consider this fish a young male or a female?

- There is a red spot at the base of the tail (caudal peduncle).
- The area behind the gills is starting to develop an orange/reddish coloration.
- The head has a slightly yellow coloration.
- The front edge of the pelvic fins is turning dark/black.
- The front part of the dorsal fin is also becoming slightly black.
- The tail fin appears slightly pointed, but is still somewhat rounded.
- The body shape seems more elongated than compact.
Behavior:
- I currently have two confirmed females in the aquarium.
- The new fish is occasionally chased or pushed away by the dominant female and usually retreats.
- It often displays with raised fins but does not actively chase the females.
