l. dorsigera, these guys are not kissing...

Day 3 of the spawn was moving day. The non-swimming fry were moved several times from one excavated substrate depression to another. The male and female traded places several times. One scooping up fry from first depression, while the other one guards the second. What a team!

They did take breaks in order to "remind the other fish to stay away". They are in constant action...

As the tank lights ramped up on Day 4, there was total chaos!

The fry could not be found and all the Dorsigera were fighting. I am guessing something happened to the fry during the night which prompted the riot. The male is the only one I could identify as the others appeared to be females in darkened, sparing colors. It looked like they were all in the process of establishing a new pecking order.

After a few hours, the male appeared to bond to a female, which one I am not certain.

Today, I am rushing around trying to setup a 20g Long to move the pair. This time I will only use 5 or 6 White Clouds as dither fish as I have not found any suitable Pencil Fish. I chose the White Clouds because I have them and they leave their own fry alone. Maybe they won't bother any of the Dorsigera fry...

Lesson learned...start off with a 20g Long or have one ready once pairing starts!

If there is any interest, I could start another thread for Round Two ;).

While dependent on inviduals it is not unusual for pair forming fishes to do a bit of finger pointing when things go wrong.

Anyone here or know of someone who might want to buy or trade some females for some males?

Looks like I have 1 male and 6 females. Currently, the male is playing with two females. Both females are trying to make nests at opposite corners (fortunately). The male goes back and forth between them. I don't know how this is going to turn out.

Hope I can buy or trade for a couple of males...please!

I mean the ad of course asking for fishes.
Right, I shouldn't leave here just because you can't say what you mean.

Re-designing and starting a new fish room all over again. This time we'll have many more Apistsogramma species. We are expanding.

Hi,

just in case you happen to live in Germany (or Netherlands): I have a wildcaught female A. psammophila, you could have it for free. I have no use for it anymore.
