I currently have 6 Longfinned Zebra Danios in my tank (Slightly larger footprint then a 2ft and taller ((80L tank)) and was curious as to others experience with keeping them with Apisto's.

At the moment they just literally go mad all day chasing each other around, up down in out at all levels of the tank. I would like to try have a shot at breeding Apistogramma agassizi "Double Red" (arriving next week), but i was wondering whether the danio's may just be to active for the Apisto's and whether I should look to find a less active mid water fish? Like maybe tetras?

Maybe once i add a few plants and hidey holes it will keep the danios more to the mid water region.

Well that's about the only question that comes to mind for me. Done my fair share of reading over the past couple days.

Thanks, Cameron.

Danios do go rather mad and are not always the best choice for a Dwarf Cichlid tank as they can spook the Apistos.

The best choices or dither fish are probably Pencilfish; they are calm, shoal nicely and don't eat the babies.

Other good choices are non-annual killifish, some livebearers, WCMM and some other rasboras and microrasboras, among others. A lot of tetras are suitable behaviourally but will eat any fry.

I'm sorry, but what do you mean by WCMM, and which livebearers do you think are suitable (bahviour and frysafe) for dwarfcichlid tankmates?
If there are more species of dwarves in a tank, are they dangerous for each-other's fries?

thx

Thx, I used to have some of them but they all jumped out (about 15 years ago), because the tank had no cover. Are they frysafe? I think they are easier to buy around here than pencilfish.
