I just got some java ferns, and feel dumb not knowing wat i am about to ask. Is there any way for java ferns to reproduce in your tank and spread further along? Can you cut part off so it regrows like with rotala, or will it just spread if it can? Do i need to trim them and if i do how do i do it?

When the leaves of the Java Fern mature, they will sprout little plantlets along the edge of the leaf begining at the tip. When the plantlets are large enough the can be planted or attached somewhere. I've even left leaves that broke off in the tank and they too developed plantlets.

Also as the root stem grows longer it can be cut and a part of the plant can be separated.
