Is an Apistogramma a good choice for me?

I recently set up a new 38 gallon aquarium, and am currently looking for a "centerpiece" fish (or fish group) for it. After looking for a while, it seems like I might want to go with an Apistogramma of some sort. My concern is whether one will kill/eat my other fish, as I'm going for a planted community style of tank. Here's a picture of the tank.

Currently the tank has in it:
7 neon tetras
2 bronze corydoras
2 honey gouramis
1 banjo catfish

Do you think an apistogramma would do well in that tank? I am mostly unfamiliar with apistogrammas, so any information is helpful

In my opinion, Apistogramma can be a "centerpiece" fish, but they aren't the best.
If you want a dwarf cichlid that is very showy and won't hide, try the ram (Mikrogeophagus ramirezi).

I tend to agree with Melanochromis - it will work, but there are better centerpiece species. Rams or one of the dwarf acaras (Laetacara spp.) would show better and still not disturb your plant. If it were my tank, I would add at least 4 more corys. They do so much better in schools.
