Hello,
These were labeled as “lemon cockatoo “ at the lfs. Assuming it’s some variety of cacatuoides. Can someone please confirm?

I tried to get a pair, these 2 instantly started swimming together.. theyhardly ever leave each others side. No aggression whatsoever. There is a third one, just to ensure I got a pair.

Thanks
Dan

Yes, a leucistic colour variety of A. cacatuoides. Please forget any notion about pair forming, no matter what variety or species, there is only a handful species of Apistogramma that are at leatmst temporarily monogamous. All others, including yours, are polygamous with only the female caring for the young.

Thanks for the reply, understood on the pairing. Will just say the big one shows a very big interest in the 2 smaller ones and vice versa.

Just wanted to share an update on my apisto pair. They have colored up quite a bit. The male is turning more and more bright orange every day. He is getting faint orange color patterns on his body The female started nesting after a couple weeks and is now a neon yellow lemon color with black ventral fins. I believe she killed the other female an has laid eggs . They really stand out in the tank, they glow. My lfs has 1 pair of gold red shoulder macmasteri which I’ve been seeking for some time. I’ve been tempted to trade but I’m really intrigued by these 2. Wish I had 2 tanks

This domestic color morph was originally sold as "Yellow-gold". It came in 2 forms, yellow-gold X orange-flash (your form) and yellow-gold X double/triple red. In the past it was found that yellow-gold X yellow-gold were unproductive and so it was necessary to cross the form with another morph.

Thanks Mike, just to clarify. The original yellow gold morph was crossed for better genetics/reproduction characteristics. The result being Yellow gold orange flash and Yellow gold double/triple red?

Perhaps a different thread would be appropriate, but can I ask a follow up about the gold Macmasteri? Would they also be considered a Luecistic Type with weaker genetics?
