Hi folks,

Just received from Belem, Brazil (as in yesterday!!). Came in under the wonderful name of Apistogramma 'Super Tapajos'.

When relaxed they show a fair amount of yellow through the bottom half of the body. Initial discussions gave rise to the possibility of Ap sp 'Xingu' (with the barring in the tail), on looking at the books again though I note Ap pertensis has links with the Tapajos and that fits nicely with the barred tail. Any one else have any ideas??

I'm no expert but the barred tail and slender elongated body , with the tiny caudual spot clearly seperate from the lateral band would lead me to believe somthing related to A. pertensis . looks almost like A. inornata . except accoriding to the DATZ book they only occur in venezuela. Perhaps it is A. cf. pertensis . see if you can get some more photos.

Andrew,

These are A. cf. pertensis, probably the same as the fish called A. sp. Pimental in Römer's Atlas.

Hi Mike,

Will let them heal fins and fill out over the next few weeks then post some more images. Have you kept this species yourself???

Thanks to everyone else as well

Andrew

There sure some good deals on your list and I regret I can't participate. I don't a have ready access to an airport and it would be hard to get enough fish to help out.
Being something of an old timer the prices listed for Apistos is amazing. I know that it isn't a fair comparison to days gone by when Apistos were hard to sell and they were often just sold as mixed Apistos and they could be had FOB Miami for $0.20each in 100 lots. Never new what would come in but A. bitaeniata was a mainstay. Some aggies, steindachneri and sometimes when Guyana exports were common they would all be N. anomala with nary an Apisto in the box.

They are definitely "on" to us with regard to the Apistos.
Pertensis is such a nice Apisto. I found only three juveniles among a box lot of Cardinals and I was able to get a reverse trio.
