How many pairs in a 29gal?

Hey folks, I'm new to Apistogramma, and I recently received a pair of A. macmasteri in the mail (sold to me as veijita "red neck" but from what I've read they're most likely macmasteri). I was wondering if I could fit another pair of Apistogramma in my tank (different species). It's heavily planted with swords and sag, and it has plenty of leaf litter and wood for hiding (Indian almond leaves).

One thing I'm concerned about is that I also have 6 Corydoras panda. The macmasteri leave them alone but I'm not sure if another pair of Apistos would crowd up the bottom too much.

I also have 10 Paracheirodon simulans.

Thanks!

Six corys and 10 False Neon + a pair of apistos? Obviously a community tank and not intended for breeding. If you have any idea of producing fry in this community, it is very very unlikely. As I always say ... oh, never mind. Your 29 high tank has the same surface dimensions as a 20 long tank and can house the same number of apistos. I wouldn't recommend a second pair of apistos, personally. Most experienced apisto keepers recommend no more than a pair or trio in this size tank. Your present corys and apistos are plenty of bottom dwellers as is. FYI, A. macmasteri males can be quite territorial and aggressive toward other males. There are reports of males claiming the bottom of 2 meter (7 ft) tanks. Of course it depends on how the tank is structured. If you do decide to try adding more apistos, then rearrange the decor before adding them. This means none of the fish have an already established territory. Also add some pieces of floating pipe to the tank where the 'losers' of the territorial game can hide until you can remove them. Good luck.

I'm not looking to breed right now (obviously). I think I'll stick with the one pair for now, then. Thanks for replying, Mike! I was hoping I'd get some expert advice!
