Hi everyone, I'm new here. English is not my native language, sorry in advance for that. A few weeks ago I acquired two specimens of Apistogramma trifasciata, I think I'm sure I have a female (A) and a male (B), But I would like you to give me your opinion. Although they are still quite young.

Another thing, the female (A), larger than the male (B) at the moment, is quite aggressive towards the male. The female stays at the front of the tank, zoning out the male at the back, who is hiding among the rotalas. She uses her tail like a whip, and stretches out her fins. So far she hasn't climbed onto anything else, and the male has no bite marks, I'm keeping a close eye on that. I don't know if this is normal, or if I should take some action.

Finally, I feed them both live food (brine shrimp and grindal), frozen food (mosquito larvae) and commercial food. The female eats everything without a problem, probably because of this she is bigger. However, the male does not accept the commercial food, he spits it out and loses interest. Any advice to get him to eating comercial?

Thank you very much in advance, I hope you can help me take better care of my fish!!

About the social prioblem:
If one of the fish (the sex is irrelevant) is mainly in a corner, especially in an upper corner, it's time to separate them. Very often this is connected to the tank being insufficiently structured. Can you post a picture of the whole tank?

Any advice to get him to eating comercial?
Don't feed at all for some days.

The aquarium is a 60p, fairly planted. This photo is from a month ago (it's one of the best I have) now the rotalas in the background are fully grown and I've added more botanicals and tannins. But I think you can still see the structure of the tank well.

Thanks for the help!

Your photos are not great so I am not certain that the fish are 2 different sexes. Aggression between 2 females of the same species can be worse than between males.

Hi,

just in case you happen to live in Germany (or Netherlands): I have a wildcaught female A. psammophila, you could have it for free. I have no use for it anymore.
