Help with Sexing and possible stomach issues

Hi all I picked this fish up today and was told it was a male. Already have a slightly larger female in the tank. Also on Reddit someone suggested i ask about possible stomach issue that he spotted in the pic. The fish is being slightly bullied by my female but nothing crazy so far. It was put in the tank about 4 hours ago and did accept and eat a small cichlid pellet already. Is this a male cacatuides? And does it look like it has any sickness? I know its a juvenile and the tank at the LFS all looked fine. Thanks

Doesn’t look a good quality fish at all. Its head looks too big for its body. Belly is also sunken.
Do you feed any live or frozen food such as brine shrimp to your fish?
It looks like a domestic form of cacatuoides to me.

Looks like a runt.

I agree, seems to be a runt. Diminished life expectancy, probably sick, obvious growth irregularities.

It indeed is a domestic A. cacatuoides, almost certainly a male aswell.

So all in all: 50:50 chance it'll make it to maturity and please do not try to keep this fish with the female if she's aggressive towards it and try to nurse it to health and/or size in a separate tank.

Re-designing and starting a new fish room all over again. This time we'll have many more Apistsogramma species. We are expanding.

Hi,

just in case you happen to live in Germany (or Netherlands): I have a wildcaught female A. psammophila, you could have it for free. I have no use for it anymore.
