Hello all,
I'm not new to fishkeeping, but new to cichlids. I currently have two thriving low-tech community tanks, (20G and 37G bowfront), that have been up and running for 1 1/2 and 2 years with same inhabitants, moderately "planted" with Java fern/moss and anubias.
I am in the planning stage of setting up a 50 gallon community tank, (I do fishless cycling), footprint is 36" x 16". I would like to keep some apisto fire gold, (the yellow/orange ones with purple on back, not the silver ones with bold black lateral line), or macmasteri gold red shoulder.
There is so much info out there it's hard to sift through... I'm curious how many apistos of those kind I could keep if I also planned to stock with:
1 Electric Blue Acara
12 Diamond Tetras
8-10 Pearl Danio (brachydanio albolineatus, not CPD)
Would 6apistos be ok with appropriate hardscaping/breaks in line of sight etc? (3 pairs of 1M/1F or 2M/4F)
Is breeding inevitable? I'm not interested in breeding intentionally, but is it inevitable that they will breed? Kinda wary of breeding behavior... are they gonna kill each other if there's 6 of them?
I do have extra tanks/equipment and space if I was forced to create another set up, but would rather not have to.
Sharing quick vids for my scaping style reference...
TIA
