I have never seen that species in the flesh but the first picture looks a female (black central’s) to me and the last picture a young male (developing tail shape).

First is a dominant female, second... likely also female. Last looks a lot like a very young male.

And it's just A. allpahuayo. "Black chin" was the designation until the species was officially scientifically described.

Sorry, if i hijack the thread. But what makes you say its a male?
I’m curious, because I got two that looks a bit like that and one larger that is 100% male.

Which one is “it”?

In this case I can't tell you particular features that make me think so, it's just the overall appearance - you can also call it "gut feeling".

I must agree with Frank on this. The top fish shows masculine features like extended anterior dorsal spines (higher than a female's), lack of black in the ventral fins, and a more slender profile, typical of a male. My guess is that this is a sneaker male trying to look female to avoid excess aggression from the dominant male. Compare your fish with those on TomC's site: https://www.tomc.no/fish.aspx?fishIndexID=2379&gruppeID=1

Hi,

just in case you happen to live in Germany (or Netherlands): I have a wildcaught female A. psammophila, you could have it for free. I have no use for it anymore.
