Hi folks.

I haven't kept fish for over 30 years but now that I'm officially a senior citizen and recently retired, I feel the need to return to this field of interest. I do have 'previuos' having run two fish houses from the early 70's. The first specialising in the cichlid fishes of Lake Malawi (when there were plenty of wild caught fish coming in from Monkey Bay) and the second, physically smaller fish house specialising in killifish.
I'm currently in the throws gathering equipment to prepare a tank for a pair of Apistogrammas (throughout my fish keeping time and since, I always had half an eye on the Apistos and have been lurking around this forum for a while....smiles).
I spent this morning checking that the daphnia ponds from which I use to collect were still there from over 30 years and of course still viable. I'm pleased to report that two out of three are still good.
It will be I guess 6 or 7 weeks before my tank will be ready to receive fish but I am a little concerned regarding the availability of decent fish. I have visited probably half a dozen LFS and I am not impressed with what seems to be available. If anyone out there can give me any sort of guidance of where I can locate stock within reasonable distance of my home town, I would be very much obliged.

Best regards,

Rowly

Hi Rowly + everyone..

Nice to hear someone who can get live food to their "friends".

The latest week I have been visiting a few ponds outside Stockholm, resulting in really great Apisto food.
Tiny, tiny black mosquito "larvae" (approx. 0,5 cm), cyclops and daphnia... In water temp. 4-8 Celsius..( Ice at the surface one day..)
My fishes lives like royals these days..:)

Be sure to get the mosquito "larvae" if you can, get them now.. they are excellent fish juvenile food!!
In a month or so they probably are not as easy to find in this size..
