Hi, I’ve joined here to learn more about apistos while I prep my tank for my first (pictured).

Its gonna have a school of rummynoses and ember tetras as well.

I’m still trying to figure out where to get them and which kind to get and if I should get WC or TR.

I’m here to learn and ask questions so any and all advice is helpful.

I prefer wc because i find them more robust but you will want very pure soft water for them. A lot of people like tr because the colours are enhanced and can handle harder water (not hard water). rummynose are probably not the best candidate for breeding apisto also rummy should be in a 36 or 48 inch long aquarium so they can stretch their fins and your aquarium doesn't look that large - it looks closer to a 15 or 20 high both of which are not very good for most species of dwarf cichild though a few might work. Embers are find i've mix them with breeding dwarf cichild and never had an issue though i'm sure if a fry swam into their mouth they wouldn't mind swallowing it.

I’m not looking to breed any apistos, just have a single one. The water is fairly soft, not too sure on parameters atm but I also have easy access to RODI water that im fine with purchasing for them. I also don’t care about colors really, I was mainly thinking about personality and I really like they way they look.

The rummynoses will probably end up elsewhere in the future, its just that I have them already and my 20 long is being used by a colony of frogs that need a species only setup or my fish will be eaten.

Well if you have soft water and only obtaining a male pick what interest you - most will work without too much effort or special requirements (beyond the soft water). As to personality - for most you won't see much without a female but that will lead to breeding whether you want it or not.

Hi,

just in case you happen to live in Germany (or Netherlands): I have a wildcaught female A. psammophila, you could have it for free. I have no use for it anymore.
